For most of us, the city of Orlando means specifically
Disney World and Universal Studios, the two most visited theme parks in the entire world! To ensure you can have the best of times while visiting these parks, it's important to know how to
choose the right season to visit based on
Orlando's climate, average temperatures, and rainfall.
Orlando's Average Temperatures
Orlando, located in what is considered
central-northern Florida, has a
humid subtropical climate that differs somewhat from Miami & South Florida's. For Orlando, we can divide the year into
two macro-seasons, the
summer one, from May to the end of September, characterized by
hot and rainy weather and the other, the
winter one, from October to April with
average, but decidedly
drier, temperatures. Let's see the temperature table here below.
Rainfall
As for South Florida, even in Orlando,
winter is the
least rainy season while rains intensify from April to September. This is also the season known for
hurricanes and tropical storms, and humidity dominates increasing the general perception of the heat.
Orlando in Spring-Summer
As mentioned above, this is the time of year with the
highest temperatures. During the day, it reaches 85/90F - 29/33C degrees and the
high level of humidity does not help, but if you go to Orlando to visit the Theme Parks, then you will enjoy visiting the
water parks and their attractions -- Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and Disney's Blizzard Beach. It is also peak-season for tourism, so expect a heavy presence of both American and foreign tourists.
A short driving distance from Orlando, you will also find
another attraction that you should not miss - The
Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral. As well as the beautifule natural reserve and
wildlife refuge of Merit Island.
Orlando in Fall-Winter
During this time of year, especially in October and November,
temperatures can drop with highs staying below 80F/30C degrees and minimums around 62F/15C degrees. The
coldest months, if we can call them that, are
December and January, but even during this time, the temperatures hardly drop below 62F/15C degrees during the day with minimums around 50F/8-9C degrees. The
climate is drier, therefore less rain which is great when visiting the parks of Disney World and Universal Studios.
When to Visit Orlando
Choose the
summer season if you like
water parks and their attractions, but try avoiding the rainiest months. You will find many tourists during summer-time, but the
prices are still accessible, unlike
during holidays beginning with Thanksgiving, late November, to continue uninterruptedly until the first half of January. During this period,
prices go up a lot, if you planning on traveling during this
peak season, you should book in advance and be ready to
find lines at the popular attractions especially when schools are not in session and during the weekends.
Regardless of the season you end up choosing to visit Orlando, we always recommend a
good sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses, the
sun tends to be
quite strong in Florida and you need to protect your skin. Also, make sure to keep yourself hydrated by drinking
plenty of water, especially during Summer time.
