BIG SUR: WHAT TO SEE AND DO

One of the must-see locations is Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, a perfect destination for adventurous travelers. The park is home to lush oak & sycamore forests, and visitors can hike, camp, and explore the natural beauty of the area.

Another popular attraction is Hearst Castle, built in 1919 and famous for its extravagant architecture, also known as the "La Cuesta Encantada" (The Enchanted Hill). Carmel, a fairy-tale town founded in the late 1700s and perfectly preserved, is also a must-see destination.

How to get there: You can reach the coast by car from Los Angeles (about 299 miles along the US-101 northbound) or from San Francisco (155 kilometers also along the US-101, but southbound).

When to visit: Although the climate along the California coast is temperate all year round, it is advisable to avoid the month of August as temperatures are very high and massive tourist crowds can take away from the beauty of the area.

Where to stay: Since there are many attractions in Big Sur, it is best to plan for at least two overnight stays (one closer to San Francisco and the other toward Los Angeles). In addition to hotels, various campsites, and glamping options are available.

What to try: Amongst local delicacies, we suggest trying avocado-based dishes (salads and sandwiches), fish dishes (especially shrimp and smoked salmon), and delicious sourdough baked goods.
