The Biltmore Hotel was built in 1926 as part of the Biltmore hotel chain; and due to its powerful architecture and incredible fame among the Jetsetters of the Jazz Age, in 1996, the building became a National Historic Landmark.
Coral Gables and its attractions
Today still, the hotel is one of the top-visited attractions in Miami. Throughout the years the Hotel has had many prominent guests from the likes of Al Capone to the Vanderbilts, to Hollywood celebrities like Ginger Rogers and Judy Garland, and even United States Presidents foremost Franklin D. Roosevelt, who even had a temporary White House Office set up for when he was staying in Miami.
Throughout the years, the Hotel has been the center of many legends and superstitions, some claim the hotel to be haunted by the spirit of Thomas Walsh. During World War II, the Hotel was used as a hospital, and later remained a VA Hospital up until 1968. The Biltmore was converted back to a hotel in 1987.
The Hotel features a famous Golf Course, an 18-hole, par 71, championship course, and an incredible swimming pool, that for some time was the largest swimming pool in the entire world. The Hotel has also been used as a movie-set by famous movie productions from Bad Boys to Miami Vice and TV-show like CSI: Miami.
If you are visiting Miami, you should consider stopping at the Biltmore Hotel for a visit. The residential area around the hotel, Coral Gables, is famous for mansions and oak-trees lined streets. Since Coral Gable is located at least a 20-minute drive from Downtown Miami (more in traffic), it is highly recommended that you take one of the escorted city tours that include the Coral Gable District. Even the Hop-On Hop-Off Tours feature a Stop at the Biltmore Hotel.
