With more than 4,000 acres, Griffith Park is one the largest urban parks in the US. The Park is located at the end of the Santa Monica Mountains (eastern side) where the neighborhood of Los Feliz, Los Angeles is located.
What you can do in Griffith Park
The Park is mainly comprised of natural, wild & rugged areas featuring
hiking and mountain-bike trails scattered all around and interspersed with developed areas for activities such as picnic grounds, concessions, baseball fields, fields for pony and train rides, golf courses and tennis courts among others.
Museums and Attractions you can visit
The park also houses some
important museums including the Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum, the Griffith Park & Southern Railroad, the Los Angeles Zoo, the Autry National Center and Travel Town Museum and
Griffith Observatory.
Possibly the two most famous attractions of the park are the Griffith Observatory located at the top of the southeast slope of Mount Hollywood and the Hollywood Sign on the southeast slope of Mount Lee.
The Park offers many activities to both visitors and residents alike; you should plan to spend at least 1 day exploring the grounds and visiting the museums here located. The Griffith Observatory is also known to be one of the best vista points for panoramic views of the Hollywood Sign and the entire city of Los Angeles. Usually, the park is included in many city tours and excursions around LA, but you can also decide to arrange a private excursion to spend half, or full, day exclusively at the park.
