Public Transportation and Car Rentals

Tips on how to get around

The city of Los Angeles is sprawling and its vastness makes getting around by public transportation not always easy. Traffic can be heavy, especially during certain times of the day. If you are planning your trip to Los Angeles and want to stay to explore the city and its surroundings, car rental remains one of the best options. However, if you prefer using public transportation, the best systems are always the metro and buses.

Metro Lines:

Metro A Line (Blue) connects
Los Angeles - Long Beach

Metro Red Line runs from
Union Station - North Hollywood

Metro Green Line links
Norwalk - Redondo Beach

Metro Gold Line connects
Edward R. Roybal - Azuza - Union Station - Atlantic

Metro Purple Line serves from
Union Station - Wilshire/Western

Metro E Line (Expo) goes from
Downtown LA - Culver City

Bus Service:

Local service buses (Metro Local) stop about every two blocks and are orange in color.
Rapid service buses (Metro Rapid) are faster buses with fewer stops (only at major intersections) and are painted red.
Express service buses (Metro Express) travel on freeway routes for longer distances with fewer stops and have a higher fare.
The G Line (orange) and J Line (silver) are bus rapid transit (BRT) lines that run on dedicated busways and require payment with the TAP card.

How much does the Metro/Bus cost?

1-Ride $1.75
1-Day Pass $5 with TAP CARD
7-Day Pass $18 with TAB CARD
Fares can be updated without notice, always check the official website

Taxi Service

It works only by reservation, call to ensure the ride, it’s nothing like New York where you can just step outside and hail a cab easily. Don't forget about Uber and Lyft!
The recommended average time to visit Los Angeles is at least a week, so we suggest renting a car to cut down travel time and have more freedom of movement.

How to get from the airport

Upon arriving at Los Angeles airport, if you haven't already planned on renting a car, to reach your destination, I recommend booking a private transfer with a meet and greet service. There are several options depending on your group size, from 1 to 10 people. Private Transfer Service

I’m the biggest fan of Fall activities, but haven’t had a chance to do anything beyond Apple Picking in NJ. I decided to take a last minute 2 day trip with a friend in Hudson Valley, but didn’t know where to start [...] Thankfully I was able to use New York Welcome to do the hard work for us [...]

Irene was a FANTASTIC tour guide! She was so knowledgeable about the area and was so patient with all our questions. We stopped to use the bathroom and we got coffee halfway through, she was so kind! It was a pleasure learning about Brooklyn from you!
